Renters around Portland have been paying about 10 percent more than the national average as Bangor and Lewiston renters saw prices drop through 2015. But that doesn’t make up for generally lower income around Bangor and Lewiston.
About one dollar in six of Maine’s $1.56 billion increase in earnings from 2015 to 2016 went to people working in the health care or social assistance industry, according to U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates.
